History

Willa Mak is a luxurious facility in the very city center, which continues the splendid interwar traditions of the best guesthouses of Zakopane, visited at that time numerously by the upper crust and artistic bohemia from all over Poland. Many famous Poles came to the meetings of the Bridge Club at Willa Mak. Among those who visited the place were Kornel Makuszyński, author of widely read books for children and young people (O dwóch takich, co ukradli księżyc or Szatan z siódmej klasy), Marian Herman - poet, satirist and author of song lyrics, several hundred of which have become hits, and finally Karol Szymanowski - one of the most outstanding Polish composers and pianists. The villa, designed in the Karpiel-Bułecka, architectural design studio ,recreates the architectural details and shape of the authentic Villa Mak built in 1914 by the Makowiecki family, Polish landowners originally from Bessarabia. We have re-created with reverence the fascinating atmosphere of interwar elegance and taste, taking inspiration from Stanislaw Makowiecki's book "From Steppe to Tatra Mountains," which recounts the life of the author and his family at Villa Mak.
